The Fall announce UK Autumn tour

MARK E Smith and his band The Fall will kick off a massive 26-date autumn UK tour with a show on home turf on October 1.

The gig at Manchester's Academy 2 comes two days before the snarling Salford-based cult hero releases new album Fall Heads Roll.

There have been at least 30 changes to The Fall line-up - and over 50 studio albums - but the band have clocked up just three minor hit singles, the highest being their 1987 cover of There's A Ghost In My House, which reached number 30.

But Smith's musical and lyrical genius and singular vision has remained undimmed over the past three decades - the NME accurately called him the grumpiest man in pop - while The Fall were notorious as John Peel's favourite band.

The Academy 2 show will be the band's first Manchester gig since a double header at Bierkeller last Christmas, though they also played a one-off show in Middleton in March.
