Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos, Paul Thomson, Bob Hardy and Nick McCarthy have lifted the lid on the disturbing lack of knowledge behind the origins of the band's name, saying that people often think that any one of them are actually called Franz Ferdinand. The Glasgow band, who anyone who listened at school should know are named after the Austrian archduke whose 1914 assasination sparked World War I, have admitted that their choice of name often causes problems with those less informed. |
Frontman Kapranos says, "Often people recognise me and I'll hear, 'Oh, there's that guy from the band,' but I had someone in New York say, 'Oh, there's that guy Franz Ferdinand."
You'd have to fear for any band that decides to call themselves Hermann Goering...
