Pete Doherty: 'I'm Not A Junkie'

He's clean for the Babyshambles tour...

Babyshambles finally kicked off their UK tour in Carlisle last night (September 20), with Pete Doherty admitting the dates will be his first in years without a heroin addiction.

After famously axing their summer tour in July, it now seems everything is rosy in the Babyshambles camp after they played a well-received set at the Brickyard venue.

Speaking to local paper the News and Star, Doherty said: “This is the first time in years I’ve come on tour not being a heroin addict.

“It’s a really positive vibe, a positive, exciting time. We’re just here to play music.”

Speaking about media attention, he said: “That’s the thing about a lot of the tabloid stuff. They keep using the word junkie. It’s just not accurate.”

Doherty was also ordered by his management not to talk about his relationship[ with Kate Moss or the pictures of her allegedly snorting cocaine in the tabloids. He said: “I’d love to talk about it, I’m in the midst of a grand conspiracy.”

In other Doherty news. today’s Daily Star claims that Pete is £300k in debt.

Pete apparently told a roadside café owner that he was only going out with Kate Moss because of her wealth.

Babyshambles continue their UK tour at Greenock Town Hall tonight.
