Gwen Stefani: Returns Home to Rock Orange County / Takes Home 2005 American Music Award

Gwen Stefani
Hardcore fans thrilled with solo act

Thousands of true Gwen Stefani fans came out Tuesday night to see Gwen perform solo at The Pond in Anaheim, California, for her final hometown show.

We joined in to see if her solo tour puts on as outstanding of a show as her Grammy winning band No Doubt does in concert.

We thought she might have something up her fashionable sleeve to surprise her hardcore Orange County fans.

The bass rumbled and the crowd pumped up their energy as Stefani stepped out on stage with her stylish back up dancers --- the Harajuku Girls -- proving that she holds her own on stage without her backing band. Complete with breakdancers, multiple costume changes, and a marching band for her finale of "Hollaback Girl," Stefani showed her hometown fans that this is just the begining of her hot new dance music career. Lucky for fans, word is out that Gwen is coming out with a second solo CD very soon, and fans got a preview of two new songs including crowd favorite, 'Orange County Girl.'

We wondered if her hardcore O.C. fans would be upset that she didn't perform any No Doubt songs in her home town, but the fans didn't have many compliants. It was Gwen mania and the crowd left eager to find out what the L.A.M.B. princess is going to do next.

KoRn: Bad Position In UK Chart / In London / Win NYC Gig's Tickets / Fan Injuried Sues Tacoma

UK chart position revealed.

In it's first week in the charts, "Twisted Transistor" hits #27. "Twisted Transistor" was released this Monday (25 November) via Virgin Records.

BBC Radio 1 DJ's JK & Joel revealed today on the Official UK Singles Chart that KoRn made it to #27 in the week ending 27 November.

#27 is not the best position for KoRn, but despite just missing the half way mark, KoRn also beat the Foo Fighters and Alkaline Trio who also had new entries and have been getting much primetime airing.

The full chart -- compiled by The Official UK Charts Company -- can be fully viewed by clicking here.

KoRn In London

November 25th was the anticipated wait of KoRn's "See You on the Other Side" promotional show in the United Kingdom.

KoRn -- making their second appearance in the capital of London within 3 months -- exclusively played four tracks off the forthcoming album - two of them being never-before-played live material!

KoRn played "Twisted Transistor" & "Hypocrites," which are now common in the live scene but also playing new favorites "Liar" & "Coming Undone". Not forgetting classics such as "Falling Away From Me" etc.

Below is the setlist played at The Forum. This setlist may not be in 100% correct order.

01. Here to Stay
02. Twist
03. Got the Life
04. A.D.I.D.A.S
05. Twisted Transister
06. Liar
07. Falling Away From Me
08. Shoots and Ladders / One
09. Freak on a Leash
10. Coming Undone

11. Another Brick in the Wall
12. Blind
13. Hypocrites
14. Yall Want a Single

Win Tickets to NYC Gig!

KoRn's Official website today reports that your last chance to grab tickets for the upcoming New York City show is to hang around outside the MTV Total Request Live (TRL) studios tomorrow!

The studio -- located in 1515 Broadway in New York City -- will see KoRn as live guests tomorrow to promote "See You on the Other Side". Before the show at 16:45 KoRn will be handing out tickets to the sold out show at the Hammerstein Ballroom to lucky fans.

KoRn will also be riding through Times Square on a red double decker bus loaded with fans and US GIs who have just flown there from London.

KoRn fan sues Tacoma over concert injury.

A KoRn fan is suing the city of Tacoma, Washington, because he got knocked over at a concert and was forced to leave, despite being injured.

The fan claims in a suit filed in Pierce County Court last week that he was jumped on and knocked down a level in the Tacoma Dome, breaking an arm and a hip.

Security offered him no help, but told him to leave or he would be arrested, he claims in the suit, which also names the venue and Pro Staff security as defendants.

Broken Social Scene: Pitchfork Interview / Black Mountain Not At War With / Tour Dates

You can view an interesting interview by Ryan Schreiber to Broken Social Scene (read last album's reviews on Rock-Rev) for Pitchfork, click on the link below...

"It's been an eventful three years for Toronto collective Broken Social Scene. Since the 2002 release of their landmark second album, You Forgot It in People, they've become one of indie rock's most popular and beloved bands, toured the world countless times over, seen members split off to form successful bands in their own right,

signed (and been released from) a major label record deal, issued a b-sides album, recorded a film soundtrack, broken up three times, been beaten by police and jailed, fought, obsessed, and struggled, and recorded enough material for three albums. We sat down this fall for interviews with co-frontmen Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, and producer David Newfeld, to see how they survived the carnage.

Pitchfork: To the casual observer, it might not seem that there was a long break between You Forgot It in People and the new album. When did you start work?

Kevin Drew: We never really stopped recording. I'd say we were back in spring of 2003.

Dave Newfeld: The previous album came out in late 2002, so really we started working in earnest in 2003 on it. In the meantime, we scored a film, the band was touring like crazy, and I made the Apostle of Hustle record. Everyone had their lives, had good things happen, bad things. Relationships start, relationships end. Circumstances change. Nothing's static. All that stuff gets put onto the CD indirectly. " (...)

Complete interview here.

Black Mountain Not At War With Broken Social Scene

extract from ChartAttack:

"The world sure would be a boring place without a little competition, right? Leafs and Habs. Lindsay and Hilary. Aniston and Jolie. Anton and Courtney. Hogan and, well, just about every wrestler from the last 20 years.

So here at ChartAttack, where we love to stir the pot, we went digging to find a bit of good ol' fashioned warring between some of our country's music tribes. And what better place to start than with the indie scene? How does a little west coast vs. east coast action grab ya?

We all know what happened when the soldiers of the Broken Social Scene army unleashed You Forgot It In People, forcing the rest of the country to take notice that the east had begun its conquering and plundering. This year the west coast finally started to push back (we're not counting the New Pornographers, of course, since they'd simply be too happy and bouncy to want to wage war) when Vancouver's Black Mountain dropped their debut full-length. The subsequent, and almost immediate, attention they garnered was eerily similar to that which BSS received south of the border over the past two years. " (...)

Weezer: Japan Tour Dates / MySpace Contest / TRL Premiere

Weezer
from Weezer's website:

"...hey everybody! Well, November pushes onward, with the weez men out accomplishing various feats of strength and the airing of grievances...oh, wait, thats Festivus. Well, we'll call it personal time. Trekking through various exotic locales, solidifying ties and searching within for truth!

Those are feats of strength anyhow. And in a few weeks, the final leg of the 2005 Make Believe Tour will pick up in Japan, and the rock shall rise again. Beyond the holidays, we know that Rivers will be completing his degree at Harvard in the spring while the others work on music and their own bags.

While there is definitely no timetable at this point, there is optimism within the band that the weez will indeed rise again someday, whether in a studio or on the road or both. When? Dunno, but don't sweat it - we'll keep ya posted, and we'll hopefully have some suprises now and again on the website in the meantime."

CONTEST

Weezer is part of a new MySpace contest where the grand prize is an XBox 360 and other prizes include the inaugural MySpace Records release "MySpace Vol.1" which features music from all sortsa bands including Weezer, who contributed "We Are All On Drugs". So enter the contest now, and keep an eye on the Weezer Myspace Page and the Myspace Music page.

TRL PREMIERE

Look for the "Perfect Situation" video on Mtv's TRL on this coming Wednesday, November 30! And don't forget to vote for it on the TRL webpage! (The video is coming to the weezer.com media page asap! In the meantime, its up on Yahoo! Music)

PERFECT SITUATION

in response to various questions that have come in about "Perfect Situation" - The version of the song you hear in the video, and may be hearing on the radio (if the station has chosen to play it instead of the original album version), is officially called the Radio Remix.

You may recall news of the band doing a small recording session at the beginning of the Foozer tour in Atlanta - the work done there was for this remix. In this version, the instrumental introduction has been shortened and the band added some extra backup vocals, as well as some slight mixing changes for the radio.

Also, the chorus melody has been revised, reflecting a change that happened on the road this year when 'sing-along' audiences tended to sing a different melody than what was on the cd, prompting the band to reconsider what was the 'right' melody for the chorus! Anyway, for the moment, this version is only available on the promotional CDs that were sent to radio stations. We dont yet know if there will be a UK/Euro/Int'l cd single for Perfect Situation, but if there is, it would be available on that.

Also, once the "Make Believe" album goes into future repressings (soon), it will have this version on it instead of the original mix.

The Darkness: New Album On MySpace / Drummer Ed Reply To Pete Doherty / Tour Dates 2006

GO TO HELL ...AND BACK WITH THE DARKNESS ON MYSPACE

Starting today, you can listen to The Darkness' new album, ONE WAY TICKET TO HELL ...AND BACK in its entirety exclusively on MySpace! It's all happening HERE.

DRUMMER ED ISSUES DENIAL

In response to a quote incorrectly attributed to me regarding Pete Doherty, saying that "I would like to smash him in the face really hard. I hate everything about him. He should be on the plate. Served up on Sunday, with a selection of veg..."

First of all, I would never say such a thing, and should I ever meet the guy, i wouldn't like to punch him in the face, nor eat him for Sunday lunch with vegetables. Random violence and cannibalism are not hobbies of mine.

THE DARKNESS ANNOUNCE FEBRUARY ARENA TOUR

Lock up your sons and daughters, because four-man rock machine The Darkness are all set to return to the stage, announcing an arena tour for February 2006. Debuting material from their new, every-song-a-classic album, 'One Way Ticket To Hell ...And Back' the shows will, as always, be so much more than just an ordinary live show.

The last time the band performed live was during their winter arena tour of 2004. In typical Darkness fashion, the tour saw them raising hell with some flaming incredible pyrotechnics, and charismatic frontman Justin Hawkins taking in the view from a lap of honour astride a life-size white tiger.

Every venue on the tour was a complete lock-out with 130,000 tickets sold, including the band playing a three-night run at the home of legends, Wembley Arena. Says Justin: "We are all really looking forward to getting back out there and playing live to our fans. It will be great to air the new album and new bass player, Richie Edwards, as well as some of our older classics."

Mogwai: New Album Announced / Tour Dates

Mogwai
7th March 2006 signals the arrival of Mogwai's new full length studio album, 'Mr. Beast.'

Produced by longtime associate Tony Doogan and Mogwai at Castle Of Doom Studio, is nothing short of a monumental moment in Mogwai's storied tenure. Though there are still hints aplenty of the subtle beauty that adorned big chunks of

'Rock Action' and 'Happy Songs For Happy People', there are an equal portion of headcrushers on this one that will leave you gasping for air. Particularly if you've been wearing a plastic bag over your face (which we do not recommend, by the way)

Though Mogwai will be hitting the US early next year, the band have already announced a slate of intimate gigs at London's ICA for next January, along with a couple of shows to benefit mental health organization One In Four in Glasgow and Edinburgh respectively, later this month (28 November at Cabaret Voltaire, 29 November at the Arches)

Gravenhurst: New Video / New EP / European Tour Dates

Gravenhurst is back with a new album “Fires In Distant Buildings” and a preceding single “The Velvet Cell”, both out on Warp. The new video for “The Velvet Cell” is out and you can downlod it from the links below.

Quicktime / small / medium / large

Windows: small / medium / large

Gravenhurst's new EP "Black Holes In the Sand" is out now.

The Ep marks a significant progression for Gravenhurst - the sonic elements of the previous record have been magnified, the undercurrent of lyrical dread intensified, yet the title track is as immediate and approachable as anything on the previous album.
‘Still Water', a beautiful, strange song evoking images of lost civilisations and cultural entropy, quickly collapses into a Velvets-inspired wig-out complete with shredding Telecasters, tambourines and shaky Moe Tucker percussion. The rural elements of the album ‘Flashlight Seasons’ are extended with the epic 'Flowers in Her Hair', then stretched to breaking point with a cover of Hüsker Dü's ‘Diane’, reinterpreting a punk classic as a murder ballad.

TOUR DATES

The US tour is just finished and Gravenhurst has announced a new European tour later this year, culminating in some live UK shows.

The London date on 9th December will be filmed as part of the sixteenth Tiscali Showcase. You will be able to watch it online a few days after the gig.

A full list of dates is as follows:

30 Nov Leuven, Stuk
1st Dec Paris, Tryptique
3rd Dec Amsterdam, Melkweg
4th Dec Koln, Gebaude 9
5th Dec Munich, Ampere
6th Dec Zurich, G5 Club

11th Dec Glasgow, Nice N Sleazy

Gravenhurst Desert Island Discs

1) my bloody valentine - come in alone
if the desert island i was stranded on was peopled by a primitive tribe I would use this song to demonstrate the art of guitar playing in the 20th century

2) the smiths - there is a light that never goes out
this song could be used to school a primitive civilsation in the use of darkly humourous melancholy and flamboyant guitar overlays

3) depeche mode - enjoy the silence
demonstrating to the tribe the art of dark, sensual, meticulously arranged synth pop

4) can - i want more
who knows, maybe me and the tribe will hit it off. maybe we'll get loaded. maybe we'll have a party.

5) can - bel air
With only ten songs to listen to forever, i will soon get very bored of them. this song is twenty minutes long, so that might help a bit.

6) bert jansch - jack orion
the tribe have become bored of my music. they decide to eat me. they allow me one last song, and I choose a blues influenced fingerstyle interpretation of a traditional english folk song played by the jimmy hendrix of acoustic guitar. clocking in at nine minutes and fifty seconds, this song might give me enough time to plan my escape

7) husker du - green eyes
perhaps if the tribe just understood that without this band we wouldn't have had the pixies or nirvana, they wouldn't eat me, but just grill me for interesting bits of indie rock trivia

8) augustus pablo - king tubbys meets rockers uptown
maybe there is a shit load of pot growing on this island

9) joy division - shadowplay
this song changed my life. maybe it will change it again, and somehow get me off this fucking island

10) gravenhurst - black holes in the sand
everything is absolutely fine. it turns out that the tribe are massive Gravenhurst fans.

Pete Doherty Considering Solo Career

Pete Doherty
Not one to shy away from controversy or media attention, Pete Doherty is at it again with a look at launching a solo career.

The frontman of Babyshambles is allegedly recording his own material at a secret location.

According to sources such as NME, it is claimed that since finishing last months tour with Babyshambles and following the media attention surrounding himself and Kate Moss, Pete, has spent time working on his own material and having no contact with his band.

However, conflict in stories arise when other sources claim that Pete is actually checked himself into rehab in Arizona. Yet another controversy in the world of Doherty? Or maybe his PR needs the sack!

Basement Jam Free Webcast

From 'Pete Diaries' on Pete Townshend website:.

BASEMENT JAM - FREE Webcast event on Dec 4 from Pete Townshend's Oceanic studios. Presented by Rachel Fuller; featuring Pete, Foy Vance, Simon Townshend, Mikey Cuthbert and Rachel and her band.

"I know I will sound like the President of the local Golf Club when I use this expression, but I am very excited to announce BASEMENT JAM. This webcast happens on December 4th from Oceanic Studios in London, England. It is now going to be offered FREE not Pay For View. This does mean we will, be unable to guarantee a clean feed to every viewer but we are increasing the bandwidth massively to cope with a bigger subscription.

WARNING! You need a WINDOWS MEDIA player to see this show. QuickTime and Real Players which we use on our download areas will not work for this show.

Rachel Fuller's IN THE ATTIC shows every mid-week from Oceanic have been a test bed for this first LIVE MUSIC webcast. Rachel has already announced this show from her Blog, and on IN THE ATTIC last week.

A limited number of people will be able to attend to watch the show live at the studio in London, but the programme is targetted at the internet audience at home.

The show is based on the same cast of guests Rachel invited to appear at her show at the London Bedford Arms show in Balham on October 18th. The same artists will appear live: Pete Townshend, Foy Vance, Simon Townshend, Mikey Cuthbert and of course Rachel will host the evening and perform with her band.

As well as a live music show BASEMENT JAM will feature live interviews, chats and informal music from Rachel's IN THE ATTIC - a format many of you will already have checked out. There will also be a highlightfrom the Bedford Arms show.

A DVD of the combined events will be made available early in 2006."

The WhoTV

It has always been my intention to pepper the free stuff looped on the WhoTV (free stream) with really good Pay For View events. The first one, planned for December 4th has hit some critical problems. Nothing technical.

My company boss and team leader Nick Goderson has just had to endure a very serious operation, and my Webmaster Matt Kent has just had to take three weeks compulsory sick leave because of a shoulder operation. A couple other members of our team have also had some minor problems. Our first Pay For View will now take place in the New Year - probably February.

The BASEMENT JAM event on Decmber 4th is going ahead FREE. Rachel Fuller and Nicola Joss, along with my studio team Lincoln Fong and Paul Bonnick have everything ready. The downside is that without a ticket/password system in place we cannot guarantee a clean stream feed to every subscriber - I hope I have purchased enough bandwidth to meet demand.

In the next week on WhoTV you will see a number of 'bootleg' style DVDs sent to me in May for my birthday by Carrie Pratt who is developing the LONG LIVE ROCK website to establish a BitTorrent group for future high quality downloads - shareware and commercial. But the stuff I'm showing this week is bootleg material that you might normally expect to pay for. We do not intend to boot the booters here, rather to acknowledge the funky work they are doing and to widen their audience and our own.

The Who are considering setting up a GRATEFUL DEAD style recording/filming area at their concerts so that higher audio and visual quality can be assured. At the moment clever clogs booters snitch Roger's vocal via his radio mike feed, and I have to say it sounds horrible and compromises the balance of the overall stage sound. Every time Roger sings a line, the band sound disappears for a moment. It would be better to have a compressed, equalized feed of the kind that the audience hear rather than whatever happens to be pumped into Roger's earpiece.

Bob Dylan's college poetry auctioned for $78,000 / Concert for Bangladesh DVD

Bob Dylan
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A collection of poems written by legendary rock poet Bob Dylan as a student at the University of Minnesota in 1960 sold for $78,000 Monday in a Rock & Pop Memorabilia auction at Christie's.

The 16 pages of poems hand-written in pencil formed the earliest Dylan manuscript ever offered for auction and it fetched the highest auction price to date for the acclaimed songwriter, according to Christie's.

A title page was inscribed in blue ink "Poems Without Titles," with the majority of the poems signed Dylan or Dylanism.

The poetry was acquired by an unidentified private European interest.

Dylan arrived at the college in 1959 as freshman Robert Zimmerman from upstate Hibbing and left at the end of 1960 as folk singer and songwriter Bob Dylan, headed to make his mark on the folk scene in New York's Greenwich Village.

The second-highest priced item in the sale that grossed $661,536 was Eric Clapton's Fender composite Stratocaster electric guitar, circa 1959, which sold for $36,000.

The Concert for Bangladesh

Rock-Newz wants take your attention on this update from Bob Dylan official website:

"The Concert for Bangladesh was the first benefit concert of its kind in that it brought together an extraordinary assemblage of major artists collaborating for a common humanitarian cause – setting the precedent that music could be used to serve a higher cause.

The concert sold out Madison Square Garden and along with the Grammy ® Award-winning triple-album boxset, and the feature film, has generated millions of dollars for UNICEF and raised awareness for the organization around the world, as well as among other musicians and their fans. It is therefore acknowledged as the inspiration and forerunner to the major global fundraising events of recent years.

To quote the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, "George and his friends were pioneers."

Anti-Flag: Joins 2006 Warped Tour / Tour Dates

Anti-Flag will take a few months out of its socialist-propagandizing schedule to help a shoe company reach the teen market this summer.

The (up until recently) avidly anti-corporate act will join the Warped Tour for the package tour’s full schedule next year. Anti-Flag joins acts such as NOFX and Rise Against who’ve already pledged allegiance to the summer package tour. The Warped Tour was conceived in 1994 as a cross-promotional effort for Vans shoes to piggyback on music culture marketing.

Anti-Flag’s long been known for its socialist and anti-corporate stance.

“I don't really want right-wing fuckers coming to our shows and invading our community!" front man Justin Sane told Aversion in 2001 . "We consider ourselves as part of a struggle. If a person who is counter to our struggle infiltrates our scene simply because he or she likes our music it could be very counter-productive to what we are trying to achieve."

The band’s RCA Records debut, For Blood and Empire is on track for a March release.

Paul van Dyk
PAUL VAN DYK VOTED WORLD'S #1 DJ

Dance music fans across the world have made their vote count and have chosen Paul van Dyk as the World’s Number 1 DJ in DJ magazine’s Top 100 DJs Poll 2005.

The Grammy nominated artist, composer, producer and political activist received the award at a ceremony at London’s Ministry Of Sound last Thursday.

The Top 100 DJs Poll, the most prestigious reference point for the world’s dance music community, drew voters across 147 countries to vote for their favorite DJ, with an increase in votes of 30% from 2004, indicating that dance music is growing beyond its own audience.

Paul van Dyk said: “ It’s not about winning, but it’s a great honor to be voted #1, it makes me proud and thankful. The biggest ‘thank you’ must go to the artists and producers who make the fantastic music I play, the great team I have around me, and to all my fans and those who voted for me”.

Liars: New Limited Single Now Avaible / Pitchfork Interview About New Record / Tour Dates

Liars
New Single

Brand New Liars' Single "It Fit When I Was A Kid" was released the november 21st

Available on 7” picture disc vinyl (and limited to 500 copies).

Also super- limited edition featuring the UN-CENSORED version of Julians' sleeve printed on EDIBLE paper will be available on the Liars website.

Liars' Angus Andrew Discusses New Record on Pitchfork website

"Amy Phillips reports:
Liars haven't been seen in public much in 2005, with just a few live performances and a provocatively-packaged single to show for the year. Meanwhile, rumors have swirled about the trio of Angus Andrew, Julian Gross, and Aaron Hemphill: they all moved to Germany; they recorded, then canned an album; their label, Mute, rejected the album; the band broke up.

Some of these things are true. Some aren't. Pitchfork recently caught up with Andrew, on the phone from a tour stop in Belgium. He's been living in Berlin, Germany, for two years, he said, and the rest of the band moved there recently to work on their forthcoming album, Drum's Not Dead. Gross and Hemphill will probably return to the U.S., but Andrew doesn't plan on it."

Björk: Two Interviews Online / Photography Book

Björk
SOMA Magazine Interview

Drew Daniel of Matmos interviews Björk about OBSESSION in the latest issue of SOMA Magazine.
Find out what her Kryptonite is, and othersuch things, here.

Interview In New York Magazine

"The Icelandic songstress joins forces with her boyfriend, Matthew Barney. So what’s their film about? Sculpture, geishas, and whales."

“Despite long lapses between her productions, creativity will always be the center of her life, she explains. “If I don’t write songs, then I’m fucked, you know?” Björk says. “I can’t just move to the Bahamas. I need that part of me for the rest of me to function.”

Instead of lounging on a sandy beach, Björk and Barney split their time between Iceland and New York, where Barney has an apartment downtown and Björk owns a house upstate “in the forest, with the Bambis.” It’s a bi-continental lifestyle that works nicely with Björk’s seasonal preferences. In December and January, she explains, “it’s colder in Manhattan than in Iceland, and the Christmasy thing is a bit insane! In Iceland, it’s like a winter wonderland, and there’s only light for one hour a day, it’s about family and drinking hot chocolate with cognac in it and cuddling.” (Summer in New York is also out: “I think it should be illegal to be in Manhattan in August.”)”

Read more of the interview in here, where Björk talks about Drawing Restraint 9.

Björk featured in book by Floria Sigismondi

Björk is of the artists set to be featured in acclaimed video director Floria Sigismondi's second photography book 'Immune'. Floria did an interactive music video for Björk's "I've Seen It All" for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Judas Priest: New Live DVD Release Dates / Tour Dates

Judas Priest
Heavy metal icons Judas Priest have released the new live DVD 'Rising In the East' on November 15, 2005, via Rhino Home Video.

Release dates for the new Judas Priest DVD 'Rising In The East' vary throughout all Territories - this is the information I have so far:

The main international release date is: 16th January 2006

Other than in:

France - 12th December 2005
Japan - 21st December, 2005
U.K. - 30th January, 2006

Vocalist Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bass guitarist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis filmed 'Rising In The East' in May 2005 at the legendary Budokan in Tokyo, Japan. The definitive Judas Priest lineup played two sold-out nights at the venue to promote the early-2005 release of the critically acclaimed studio album 'Angel Of Retribution,' their first new material in 15 years. 'Rising In The East' is Judas Priest's first straight-to-DVD release.

"We talked about doing a DVD on this tour and we decided to do it at the Budokan because it's a special venue. It's world-renowned. We thought it was an ideal choice," says Tipton. "We filmed both nights but we ended up using the second night only for this DVD. We wanted it to be as live and as real as possible, and when you start taking from different shows there isn't continuity. We wanted it to be one show and that's exactly what it is."

"I think what 'Rising In The East' displays to Priest fans is the first time seeing us reunited for a full-length show in the DVD format," Halford says. "I think the DVD compounds all the great things that Priest fans and metal fans all around the world love about the band. Priest is still a powerful, physical, full-on experience in the live domain. What this DVD is intended to do is give longtime Priest fans another great memory to add to their collection, and it's also an opportunity for new Priest fans to explore all the great things we're achieving three decades later."

'Rising In The East' is bursting with Judas Priest classics from albums such as 'Sad Wings Of Destiny,' 'Sin After Sin,' 'Stained Class,' 'Hell Bent For Leather,' 'British Steel,' 'Point Of Entry,' 'Screaming For Vengeance,' 'Turbo,' 'Ram It Down' and 'Painkiller' as well as 'Angel Of Retribution' standouts.

The track listing includes: "The Hellion/Electric Eye," "Metal Gods," "Riding On The Wind," "The Ripper," "A Touch Of Evil," "Judas Rising," "Revolution," "Hot Rockin'," "Breaking The Law," "I'm A Rocker," "Diamonds And Rust," "Worth Fighting For," "Deal With The Devil," "Beyond The Realms Of Death," "Turbo Lover," "Hellrider," "Victim Of Changes," "Exciter," "Painkiller," "Hell Bent For Leather," "Living After Midnight" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'."

"This set list is a great cross-section of the Priest catalog. It runs the full spectrum of musical content," Tipton says. "We used to only play two or three songs from a new album on tour, but for 'Angel Of Retribution' we've played five or six songs from it during the time we've been out, which is a lot. That shows how good the album is and how well-received it has been. It's been very rewarding to see the positive reaction to the new material."

"The DVD is a full two-hour display of highlights from Priest's career over the last three decades," Halford says. "We take you on a metal journey from 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' right up to 'Angel Of Retribution.' Between those two points in time, 'Rising In The East' includes music that is significant to us and to our fans. In that respect, this DVD is quite unique."

The audio, which was mixed by longtime Judas Priest producer Tom Allom, is presented in 5.1 Surround Sound.

"Tom's never totally been away. We've always kept in touch with him. He's a good friend and we worked with him for many, many years," Tipton says. "On the live aspect, Tom is the ideal man. He knows the band inside out. He knows what we like, and he's got a great set of ears."

"He is a significant figure in the history of Judas Priest," Halford says. "He's made the same metal journey as we have. We were waiting for an opportunity to work together with him again. There's a built-in feeling of security because Tom knows us so well musically. We knew we could hand him a project like this and let him go at it with all the right attributes and complete something that's going to make us happy and make the fans happy."

Japan has been an incredibly important part of Judas Priest's career. The band's first-ever live album, 1979's 'Unleashed In The East (Live In Japan),' was recorded in the "Land of the Rising Sun," so it's only fitting that the eagerly awaited 'Rising In The East' DVD originate from there too.

"Judas Priest was one of the first bands to invade that country with metal," Halford says. "Even though we made the DVD in Japan, it really represents the relationship that Judas Priest has with fans around the world."

Bono's tribute to the British politician Mo Mowlam

‘You’re supposed to stop wanting to change the world...’
Bono's tribute to the British politician Mo Mowlam was delivered at a memorial event in London’s West End last night. Comedians, pop stars, politicians and friends all paid tribute to Mowlam. She will be remembered in particular for playing a crucial role in the peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, as a Cabinet Secretary in the Blair Government.

Here’s Bono’s tribute:

‘When you grow up
You're supposed to stop wanting to change the world
And instead better adapt to it
When you grow up
You're supposed to stop believing
That
People can change

Today
We give thanks
For the girl in Mo Mowlam
For humour
In the face of serious bigotry
For naiveté when it was necessary
For wisdom when it wasn't
Today
We give thanks
For youthful stubbornness
In the face of mockery
For honesty
When illness cheats
For grace
Amongst the clumsy
Today
We give thanks
For a girl who refused
To grow up and out of her old friends
Beautiful
At Durham
More beautiful
Bringing it out of others
In housing estates
In her labour
In her family
In the Irish...
More faith
...Than the Irish themselves
Faith
That we would eventually see sense...
Peace
She's there
We're nearly there...’
