Patti Smith to Appear at ROCKRGRL Music Conference in Seattle

Most major music festivals and conferences will forever be inundated with hoards of sweaty boy bands, but for a few days in November, the tables will be turned. From November 10-12, the Madison Renaissance Hotel in Seattle will host the world's largest gathering of female musicians when the ROCKRGRL Music Conference 2005 rolls into town to celebrate all aspects of the stronger sex's place in rock music industry.

Patti Smith will be honored with the "Woman of Valor" award at a special conference kickoff banquet on November 10, which just happens to fall on the 30th anniversary of the release of her classic debut album, Horses. Smith will also play a set with longtime accomplice Lenny Kaye.

In addition to Smith, this year's conference will include a keynote speech and solo performance by Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano, a "Shop Talk" session featuring Bonnie Raitt and Ann Wilson of Heart, and a bunch of panel discussions addressing such topics as "Who's Afraid of Feminism?", "Female Guitarists: Where Have All the Shredders Gone?", and "Ho, Ho, Ho: Lyrics As Humor". Alas, we doubt the Ying Yang Twins will show up to defend themselves during that last panel.

Notable live performers include Erin McKeown, Amy Rigby, Barbara Manning, Sarah Dougher, Lillix, Stiffed, the Brain Surgeons NYC, Texas Terri, and all-female Aerosmith cover band Dream On.

Other confirmed performers include the Randies, Buttersprites, Lauren Hoffman, the Juliet Dagger, Sam Shaber, Magneto, Lourds, Ruby Dee and the Snake Handlers, Narrows, Hazard County Girls, Secs, Modicum, Kegels, Alice Stuart and many more.

I've become quite impressed with former Oracle president Ray Lane and his analysis of the enterprise software industry.
