Van Halen Not The Next Rock Star Band

Van Halen
A funny thing happened in the music news Thursday. MTV News published this whole thing about how they had a "source" who told them the next Rock Star band would be Van Halen. The band's management had no comment on the matter, but it turns out, certain questions were never actually asked.

Alex and Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony have outright denied that they will be the next band on the show, so MTV News printed a full retraction to the story Friday. Further to that, MTV reported that a band spokesperson had no comment regarding the band's participation in the show, but Halen's people say they were never asked specific questions about the Rock Star show.

The Halen denial follows an outright denial by former Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who "scoffed" at the idea of he and his former bandmates attempting to replace the late Layne Staley.

So who will be the Rock Star band? There are still a number of candidates. Here now, for your consideration:

# Sublime: Lead singer Brad Nowell died two months before the band's debut was released — and put them among the mid-'90s most popular groups.

# The Grateful Dead: Jerry Garcia died from heart trouble in 1995. The Dead have since toured un"grate"fully without him.

# Blind Melon: Lead singer Shannon Hoon died of a heroin overdose in 1995. Best known for their single gigantic hit, "No Rain."

# Big Country: Popular '80s Scottish band's lead singer Stuart Adamson hung himself in 2001.

# The Germs: The legendary punk band are actually playing a show or two this year because there's a film coming out about late singer Darby Crash's life. But actor Shane West won't fill the position for long...

# INXS: We know the honeymoon with J.D. Fortune isn't over yet, but just wait 'til INXS fans realize they're watching a bar rocker fronting their band. It'll be back to the ol' drawing board in less time than you think.
