Pearl Jam given green light for Brazilian concert

The band to perform at Sao Paulo's Pacaembu stadium.

Pearl Jam will hit Sao Paulo's huge Pacaembu stadium this December after the city's major gave the event the go-ahead.

For several weeks, the band's Dec. 2-3 shows were cast in doubt following complaints by local residents living in the upmarket neighbourhood surrounding the Pacaembu.

Previous concerts had been cancelled following problems with noise levels and litter.

However, it seems Serra has solved the stand-off with a list of demands that must be follows by the band and concert promoters, including a prompt 9.45pm finish, a short soundcheck taking place in the daytime and a special police security presence.

The concert is reportedly Pearl Jam's first open-floor show since the Roskilde Festival in 2000, which led to the death of nine fans, and comes as part of a lengthy Latin American tour starting November 22 in Santiago, Chile.

The band are currently tying up loose ends for their eighth studio album, due early 2006.
