A potential 'Yoko Ono' moment rubbished by the band.

In a rare move, Mick Jagger has denied press reports that L'Wren Scott, his partner of four years, has caused a rift in the band.

The Stones frontman issued a statement this week denying claims that her involvement - pressing guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards to give up smoking and change their clothes - had created tension while the band tour North America.

"It is completely untrue to say L'Wren has caused a rift between myself and the rest of the band," said Jagger. "This is all nonsense, everyone has their own style. We have not had any disagreements about clothes, smoking or L'Wren, and this is all very hurtful for her."

"Scott would not dream of interfering with a band who have been on the road for 40 years, he added. "In fact the band, their wives and girlfriends are all getting along extremely well."

37-year-old Scott's opposite number, Ronnie Wood's wife, Jo Wood, also went on the record in the statement, saying "Ronnie is the only one who can stop himself from smoking. No one can tell him to stop. Me and L'Wren went together to stop smoking in Boston three years ago."

She said the reports were ridiculous.

"Ronnie has the same look which he has had forever and that's not about to change," she said, adding, "[Scott] did give some wonderful jackets to Ronnie that I loved and I told her if she found anything else I'd love to see them."
